Workshop 2: Cemantle
A word-guessing game using semantic similarity
What is Cemantle?
Cemantle is a game where you try to find a secret word. After each guess, you get a score showing how semantically close your word is to the target. The score is not based on spelling, but on meaning.
The game uses Word2Vec embeddings under the hood: the same technology we explored in TP1.
How to Play
- Go to cemantle or its french counterpart cemantix
- Type a word and submit
- You'll get a similarity score (higher = closer to the target)
- Use the feedback to narrow down your guesses
- Find the secret word!
Tip: Start broad (common nouns, verbs) then get more specific as you get warmer.
Questions to Consider
- How does this connect to what you saw in the 2D embedding visualization?
- If two words have similar scores, does that mean they're similar to each other?
- Could you "cheat" by knowing how Word2Vec was trained?
